About Philip Hyde
Philip Hyde (1921-2006)
During his career, Hyde published numerous books and portfolios of his work, including “Slickrock: The Canyon Country of Southeast Utah” with text by Edward Abbey, “Drylands: The Deserts of North America” with text by David Brower, and “Glen Canyon Portfolio” with text by Eliot Porter. He also co-authored the book “Wilderness” with his son, David Leland Hyde.
In addition to his photography, Hyde was known for his activism in the environmental movement. He worked closely with various conservation organizations, including the Sierra Club, the Wilderness Society, and the Environmental Defense Fund. His photographs were used in campaigns to protect wilderness areas and to raise awareness about environmental issues.
Philip Hyde passed away in 2006, leaving behind a legacy of breathtaking photographs that continue to inspire and advocate for the preservation of the natural world. His work serves as a reminder of the beauty and importance of our wild places, and the need to protect them for future generations.
