About Richard Danskin

Richard Arthur Danskin (1936-2012) Listed California Artist, born in Berkeley, Calif. He grew up in El Cerrito and Kensington, Calif. and attended El Cerrito High School. Richard spent the early years of his career as a home designer in the San Francisco Bay Area. He designed hundreds of custom homes In the Lafayette and Orinda area, focusing on the contemporary California style of the 60's, working with glass, redwood, soaring ceilings and modernist lines. He left home design to pursue painting and opened his first art gallery in Carmel, Calif. in 1969. Over the years, he owned art galleries in Palm Springs, Calif., Palm Beach, Florida, Maui, Hawaii and Palm Desert, Calif. He is best known for his highly detailed realistic landscape paintings. He loved to travel the country searching for nostalgic scenes from rural America. He captured these scenes in a painting style that used highly realistic detail to evoke the beauty and sadness of a bygone time that could never be recaptured.
